In January 2012, the Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities has launched a Task Force on the EU Prevention of Mass Atrocities to contribute to the EU’s continued efforts to translate its general commitment to the responsibility to protect into practice and make the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities a priority of EU foreign policy.
The Task Force is chaired by Professor Christoph O. Meyer (King’s College London) and Professor Karen E. Smith (London School of Economics) and made up of leading European academics, experts and practitioners to produce a ‘Report on EU prevention of Mass Atrocities’, was released at a public event in March 2013 and presented to the European External Action Service and other key decision makers in EU institutions and Member State governments.
